    The Wolfsonian-FIU

1001 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139

    (at 10th Street)

    PROGRAM

Acclaimed artist and activist Roberto Lugo is reimagining traditional ceramics with a 21st-century street sensibility…creating artwork with contemporary urgency, turning porcelain forms into agents of change and disruption. Lugo looks to the Wolfsonian’s collection of 19th and 20th century European and American ceramics producing new work that depicts the histories, experiences, and heroes of Black and Brown communities. On the building’s exterior, Lugo has designed a mural commemorating the Bahamian, Haitian, and Caribbean communities, as well as his native Puerto Rico. Connecting the gallery installation to the street, Lugo invites visitors to consider the intersection of race, politics, and memory in the world around them.

Mickey Wolfson will be welcoming FAN at this event!

    PROGRAM

Ule Ole Allez is a major new installation by Ecuador born, New York City based artist Ronny Quevedo created in collaboration with local futsal (indoor soccer) leagues and players. The work draws parallels between movement in sports activities and migration over local and international borders and the ever-changing rules immigrants face. Teams play matches, which are open to the public and culminate in a trophy presentation. The field of play is blanketed by a covering of canvas and paper on which game traces and marks from players footwear accumulate, creating a vestige of community action.
